£2m+

Cash benefit secured and reinvested into further R&D

The Challenge

Hurdle approached Catalyst Solutions to explore a potential R&D claim relating to one specific area of their work. While they had previously submitted R&D Tax Relief claims, they were looking to revisit a portion of their innovation pipeline with fresh technical input.

During early discussions, the Catalyst Solutions technical team worked closely with their internal experts to unpack the full scope of activity, identifying five qualifying projects across three scientific fields, including in vitro diagnostics and epigenetic diagnostics.

Why Catalyst Solutions

Chronomics needed a partner who could engage at the level of the science. The work spanned multiple disciplines and required close collaboration with both scientific and finance teams to bring structure and clarity to a complex process.

The Approach

Catalyst Solution’s technical team worked closely with Hurdle’s internal experts to map the full scope of their R&D activity, identifying five qualifying projects across three scientific fields. From there, Catalyst worked alongside the finance team to structure the claim in a way that maximised benefit while keeping risk tightly managed.

The Outcome

Hurdle came into the engagement expecting qualifying R&D expenditure of around £1 million. The detailed technical review told a different story.

£7m+ in qualifying R&D expenditure identified across three scientific fields.

This resulted in a claim seven times larger than originally anticipated.

£2m+ cash benefit secured and reinvested into Hurdle’s research programme.

“R&D is a highly technical area which has recently become very well populated with experts looking to guide you through what is a complex process. We were looking for a firm that clearly understood the technical language of R&D and were committed to executing the work required in an equally technical and detailed way. Working with Catalyst Solutions was a pleasure. We developed detailed work plans together and all work was done in close collaboration, using all of our in-house subject matter experts to ensure Catalyst Solutions always got the highest quality information and data. This rigorous and thorough approach was exactly what we were looking for, and our experience reinforced that the Catalyst Solutions team are some of the best in the business.”
